Merilden Station Mintaro

Photographic Study – Merildin Station, Mintaro

Merildin is a must see for all tourists that come to this region.  The last time I was at Merildin was 11 years ago, not much has changed out there in those years which is sad but it is a great place to take photos.

I Love to visit Merilden when in the Mintaro Region. I have a photo of my old HK Monaro taken with the two enormous palms in the background – a magic place. You can feel the past history and even imagine the train noise with locals scurrying about.
It is so quiet there at sundown, you are able to hear sounds that will relax you and recharge the batteries.
I recommend to take a Coopers Longneck, to toast the pioneer spirits that may still inhabit the siding.

II CAN REMEMBER GOING ON THE TRAIN FROM MERILDEN TO ADELAIDE QUITE OFTEN AS A CHILD WITH MUM SHE OFTEN HAD TO TRAVEL TO ADELAIDE TO SEE AN EYE SPECIALIST BACK IN THE DAY THEY DIDNT HAVE SPECIALISTS UP THIS WAY YOU HAD TO TRAVEL TO ADELAIDE FOR THAT.. IT WAS SUCH AN EXCITING EVENT , IF YOU COULD NOT DRIVE YOURSELF IT WAS THE NEXT PORT OF CALL FOR TRAVELLERS APPOINTMENTS AND SHOPPING.. WE WOULD DO THE MAIN STOP AT RIVERTON FOR REFRESHMENTS. EVEN WAITING TO PICK HER UP AT MERILDEN STATION AT NIGHT WAS AN EVENT IN ITSELF .SEEING THE LIGHT FROM A GREAT DISTANCE AWAY AND THE SIREN WHEN YOU KNEW IT WAS GETTING CLOSER. TO THE STATION MIND YOU IT WAS PRETTY EERY AT NIGHT IF YOU WERE ON YOUR OWN . THOSE WERE SOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES, EVEN WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE ADELAIDE RAILWAY STATION AND PAYING 2 CENTS TO USE THE TOILETS !!!MIICHELLE YOUNG
