2nd Clare Valley Festival of the Lamb announced

The Mintaro Progress Association (MPA) are proud to announce the 2nd Clare Valley Festival of the Lamb which will be held from 22 – 26 September 2021.

Building on the success of the inaugural Clare Valley Festival of the Lamb, this multi-day event is designed to become an annual spring equinox festival. It combines with the first buds of the vines and the premier time for new-season lamb that is lean, tender and ideal for a wide range of recipes.

The lamb and an ethical approach to its preparation is the focus.  This is achieved by having the restaurant, venue or hotel take a full lamb from a local farmer, which the chef then prepares in consultation with their butcher and the farmer. The lamb inspired dishes will be match with some of the Clare Valley’s finest wines.

The format will follow a similar approach to 2020, but instead of finishing with the Equinox, it will commence with the Equinox. The festival is designed to cater for locals, as well as attracting tourists to the region. Food industry people such as writers and chefs from other areas will be included to help in further promoting the region as a leading epicurean experience.

The festival provides mid-week events and encourages the spotlight on local produce.  It supports a collaborative approach between hotels and restaurants in the region. The Clare Valley Festival of the Lamb adds value to food, wine and beverages within the region by enhancing the paddock to plate / provenance culture, which has now seen local lamb producers featuring regularly on local menus.

The MPA are extremely keen to support the linkages between the sheep / lamb industry and the tourism sector. To date, 6 lamb producers are partnered with venues in Mintaro, Auburn, Watervale, Polish Hill River, Clare and Blyth. Each venue will be holding at least 1 event during the festival and are as follows:

  • Magpie and Stump Hotel, Mintaro
  • Paulett Wines & Bush DeVine Café, Polish Hill River
